Final Days
Graduation day at last. These 24 students have studied at Moffat Bible College for four years, and this morning, they were honored for their hard work by receiving their diplomas.
It was a cold, rainy morning. Normally, the ceremony is held outdoors on the campus of Moffat, but because of a hard rain
overnight and the threat of more rain, the service was moved to the Africa Inland Church, located a short walk from Moffat.
There was standing room only, as family and friends and other students gathered at the AIC to honor these graduates. It is estimated that there were nearly 2000 in attendance. Once the grads had their diplomas and marched outside, the celebrating began, African style. Graduates were surrounded by family and friends, who broke into song as they paraded their grad down the road to wherever the family celebration would continue.
Though we taught only first year students, we became acquainted with many of the upper classmen, and we celebrated with them on this special occasion.
So now, we've finished the task we came here to do. We are pleased with what we accomplished, but moreso, we are blessed with what has been accomplished in us. Yesterday afternoon at the Moffat banquet, the students were challenged that as they transition to the next phase of their lives, to simply do the next thing. When feeling overwhelmed by too much going on in life, just do the next thing. When feeling sidelined and insignificant and alone, just do the next thing – but in doing the next thing, be faithful to the Lord.
We have already been asked many times, "What's next? Are you coming back to Kijabe?" We'd like to, but when and for how long and . . . and . . . and. While we transition back to life in the States, the heat and humidity, and whatever other "culture shocks" await us, we too will just do the next thing. The rest is up to the Lord.
