Kijabe and Back and Then to Mali

After venturing to Kijabe, Kenya, East Africa with my husband in 2006, I embarked on an even greater adventure in 2007. I took two mission trips to a remote village in Mali, West Africa in both July and September with some women from church. Here's a bit of my story.

Reunion

July 7-9 was reunion weekend at RVA, as well as the Centennial Celebration of the founding the school in 1805. It is estimated that more than 600 alums and family converged on the campus for the event. I don't know the actual count, but there were lots of folks, and it was a quite an event.

It was a cold, rainy, damp, chilly morning on Saturday as we worked the registration table, but no one seemed to mind. Friends were watching for friends; kids were watching for Mom and Dad. How could the weather dampen those spirits!

For me, a highlight was being able to connect with classmates from my graduating class at Moody Bible Institute (Class of '61 -- that's 19, not 18)! We haven't seen each other since graduation. I was the misfit in that I was the only one who had not attended RVA, but we all thought it was pretty neat to have the privilege of seeing each other in Kenya.

two RVA juniors selling donuts on Saturday morning as a fundraiser. I think they sold well over 1000 donuts. Their sales pitch? “This might be your last chance to buy a donut before Jesus comes!
