Kijabe and Back and Then to Mali

After venturing to Kijabe, Kenya, East Africa with my husband in 2006, I embarked on an even greater adventure in 2007. I took two mission trips to a remote village in Mali, West Africa in both July and September with some women from church. Here's a bit of my story.

The Seeding

In September 2005, while visiting our kids and grandkids in SoCal, we joined good friends, Ruth and Richard, for dinner. They had just spent several months in Kenya, and we were interested to hear about their trip and to see their pictures. As we were going thru the pictures, Richard and Ruth (retired veteran missionaries to Africa) conferred together in Swahili, which we have learned means that they have something up their collective sleeve! Sure enough, at the end of the pictures, Richard announced that they were returning to Kenya for four months in the Spring of 2006, and suggested that we join them for part of the time.

Though we didn't immediately think or say "no" to the idea, neither did we offer a resounding "yes. " I suppose stunned silence may describe what we were thinking, though unexpressed. But time seasons things. We mulled it over and prayed about it. Before we knew it, the idea became reality.

This is the seeding . . . the beginning. Join me and Gene as we venture onto an unknown path. We are grateful we have a Faithful Leader.

I just love the way God uses Rich and Ruth to encourage many of us into serving in ways and experiencing God the way we would never think of.
Love,
Michele
